One of the most durable and elegant desktop options on the market. But, looks aren't everything- it's what's on the inside that matters right? The Dell Aurora R11 comes in many options for setup, so it's crucial you choose the right one for VR Gaming depending on what games you want to play. You might get a cheaper solution by building your own PC, but this computer saves you a lot of time and effort. Here, will go through everything you need to get started with the Alienware Aurora R11and what potential upgrades you might need.
So what makes a laptop VR ready? It is a combination of many different factors like processing power, graphics card, RAM, connectivity, and also what operating system the computer uses. For example, if you are planning to buy an HTC Vive headset, you will need at least 4GB of RAM, an Intel i5 processor or greater (or AMD equivalent), a GeForce® GTX 970 or greater (or AMD equivalent) and at least 1x 2.0 USB connection. But this is, however, the minimum requirement, and you can't expect the most advanced games to run on a setup like this. The ASUS TUF is equipped to handle most games out there and has VR ready specs that are compatible with any VR headset.
Games and compatibility - Depending on the setup you choose, the Aurora R11 comes in at a very affordable price compared to a lot of the competitors. For around $1,300 on the Dell site, you can find a great setup that can handle most VR games on Oculus or Steam. With strong processing power and advanced graphics cards included in the price, everything visual really just depends on what headset you buy. Basically, any setup on the dell site from this price and onward is doable for VR Gaming- but let's get more into detail...
Graphics and Processor – For $1,300 you get a tremendous 10th Generation Intel 8 core processor that can clock up to 4.8GHz with the turbo boost function. Combined with an NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2060 that has its own 6GB dedicated memory, you could handle any game you could find on the Oculus Platform and most of the games on Steam. 16GB of RAM should hold for most VR gamers as well, but it doesn't cost more than 30 bucks to get twice the RAM on this computer setup. The SSD however, is a bit low as well at 256GB, so we would recommend at least 512GB.
We found a great deal on Amazon for the Aurora 11 including 512SSD, Upgraded graphics cards with 8GB dedicated RAM + 16 RAM that would ensure you at least a VR gaming rig that could handle most games coming out over the next 4 years or so. So if you have around $600 more to spend, this is the option to go for in the long run.
Hardware and components - The Alienware Aurora R11 tower is made of durable metal and plastic with high-performance liquid cooling. But it would be better to combine that with tempered glass sides for better airflow, especially when you have a processor with an insane turbo booster that really heats up after long gaming sessions. Other than that, the Alienware Aurora R11 has great connectivity, with many USB ports, HDMI, and integrated WIFI/Bluetooth. Nothing is missing when it comes to connecting your VR headset and start gaming!
Extras and prices – When you buy a Dell, you get a monster of a machine but no freebies included like keyboard, nouse, or sound system. Here are Alienware’s own prices for these add ons:
Upgrade RAM on Alienware Aurora 11- The computer has 4 slots for RAM and they can handle up to 16 GB RAM per slot. This means you can upgrade the RAM up to 64GB if you want. The price isn't that bad either on Dell's own website, where you can get a 16 RAM 32MHz card for $132.99.
Upgrading RAM will ensure smoother gameplay and faster storage of data when you play, so that you won't feel like the games are loading for too long. 16GB Ram is usually more than enough to handle any VR games these days, but it depends on how many other processes are running in the background as well.
Alienware Keyboard- A great ergonomic keyboard made to cater to the gaming industry with perfect touch control for precision gaming.
Alienware 7.1 Gaming Headset- Maybe not the most comfortable headset to use with a VR headset, but the sound depth is surpassed by none. It really gives so many layers of sound for that great immersive feeling in the game.
Alienware Wired/Wireless mouse- The mouse is a pretty expensive add-on from Alienware, but you do get the option to either hook it up to your usb port, or use battery power. You could probably find a similar option for half the price on amazon, but it sure looks cool though with the Alienware keyboard.
Conclusion – If you're not planning on moving to Nintendo World any time soon, you'll still need an optimal and affordable rig at home. So if you're looking for a good price and a rig that can withstand the test of time, the Alienware Aurora R11 is a good choice. It certainly gives a lot of value for your money, with nothing unthought of when it comes to connectivity and gaming compatibility. Unfortunately, there is no standard keyboard or mouse included in the package, so make sure you have this and a good screen to match.
Before, it was the computer needs of companies around the world. Now, Dell is taking over the gaming industry with a fantastic series of desktop models catered for every gamers needs.
