Pimax, the company known for its wide field of view (FOV) VR headsets, have now launched the Pimax 5K SUPER, a PC VR headset first shown in its prototype stage at CES 2020 earlier this year. Several of the best VR headsets go to or around 90Hz, like the Oculus Quest 2 and HTC Vive Cosmos Elite.
Not to be outdone on the spec sheet, Pimax has released the Vision 5K Super, which has an experimental mode to enable a crazy-high 180 Hz refresh rate which makes it the best VR headset...
In addition to the higher refresh rate on the Supermodel, the Vision 5K Super comes with a new "Modular Audio Strap" that is supposed to be more comfortable. The package also includes a comfort face kit (padding, basically) and a nose guard.
GAMES AND FEATURES- Pimax Vision 5K Super VR Headset will take you to the next level with your VR gaming. The Pimax Vision 5K Super is an interesting VR headset with many improvements over previous Pimax models. The 5k SUPER witnesses the experimental 180 Hz mode and also offers alternative refresh rate modes of 90Hz, 120Hz, 144 Hz, and 160 Hz.
Providing vivid lifelike graphics, 5K SUPER would further offer you the upper hand first-person shooters, racing, real-time strategy, and so on, highlight the effectiveness of the texture and elevate the sense of presence to a whole new level in VR. In due course of time, you could timely respond to displacements and take action.
GRAPHICS AND PROCESSOR- The Pimax 5K Super effectively runs two 1440p displays side by side, and they run at a 180 Hz refresh rate. That's twice as fast as the older Pimax 5K XR. The crisp resolution and high refresh rate will make for clear visuals if you have a machine that can handle running games that fast.
For reference, two 1440p displays are 88% of the way to 4K in terms of pixel count, and there's not a lot of hardware out there running games in 4K at even 60fps. But, if you've got the rig, this headset will be a powerful accomplice in your virtual endeavours, and its 200-degree field of view will wrap you up in your virtual worlds.
Say goodbye to the dreaded screen door effect or "SDE", ghosting and smear as those effects are virtually invisible, and say hello to the best VR made by PIMAX.
HARDWARE AND COMPONENTS- With its ergonomically Designed face pad and strap so that you can comfortably stay immersed in that virtual world for long periods and it reserves enough room for wearing most prescription glasses.
The Vision 5K Super features a dark blue outer shell with a soft-touch coating on the plastic. Like other Pimax headsets, it places both screens at an angle that wraps slightly around your face.
The front of the visor includes a chrome chevron that lights up with a green glow when the headset is on.
The power and volume buttons are on the upper-right side of the visor, along with an LED status light. When the headset is off but plugged in, the light is red. When it’s powered on, it’s green. Purple indicates that the HMD is booting up, flashing firmware or there’s an error with the driver software.
EXTRAS AND PRICES- Like many of Pimax’s headsets, the “5K” Super is tracked via either SteamVR 1.0 or 2.0 tracking beacons, which must be purchased separately at its base $859 price on Amazon.
A bundle is however available for $1250 which includes two SteamVR 2.0 base stations and two Valve Index controllers
200 Degree Diagonal FOV is the closest to the human vision of any commercially available product.
No more looking through the binocular effect with this new VR headset as you will notice immediately that enemies who could run away from the corner of your vision in a VR game cannot run away from you anymore.
Reasonably comfortable and sporting a wide FOV, the Pimax Vision 8K Plus is a good enthusiast headset but not for the average consumer.
CONCLUSION- The Pimax Vision 5K Super has several great features that made us recommend it as the best VR for PC... But does that make it the best VR headset on the market? That depends on what you value most. There's a lot to like about the Vision 5K Super.
The problem is that while it boasts many fantastic specifications, it can’t use all its top features at once. Pimax headsets are all about the wide field of view (FOV) VR, but that goes out the window when you enable the top refresh rates. That doesn’t make it a bad headset.
It’s just not what most people would expect, and the premium price makes it hard to justify.
All in all Pimax 5K Super delivers an unparalleled true-to-life virtual reality experience like no other.
The Primax Vision 5K Super VR headset has a wide 200°FOV angle that will give players a unique and new experience when it comes to immersing themselves in the game.
