ASUS ROG Zephyrus VR Ready Laptop with republic of gamers logo on the screen

ASUS ROG Zephyrus VR Ready Laptop

Information

The 2020 ASUS ROG Zephyrus might not be what gamers expected. With a 14" screen and a small keyboard, this is probably not what most PC gamers are looking for. But for VR gamers on a budget, this is absolutely one of the best deals you can find online right now. And with 5K VR glasses coming out in the future, you really don't need a huge screen to drag around. For under $1,200 you get a powerhouse that handles any game effortlessly. Asus understands that VR gamers don't need a huge screen but they need a lot of processing power.

Games and compatibility- This version of ASUS ROG Zephyrus runs smoothly on most VR gaming platforms like Steam, Vive, and Oculus. But, for the most advanced games on Steam, it is recommended to have a better graphics card that would give higher clarity in fast-paced games. If you're also looking for a computer for regular gaming as well, then you might consider buying a computer with a larger screen. You can, of course, hook up an external screen as well via casting or HDMI.

Graphics and Processor– Thanks to an affordable AMD Ryzen 7 clocking in at 4.4GHz, you won't have any trouble with lag or insane loading times for VR games. This combined with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650  VR ready graphics card and 16GB RAM gives you a detailed and crystal clear image that will impress even the most experienced VR gamers. To top it off you get 1TB of SSD video processing power. Usually, a computer in this price range doesn't even have half of this included in the base price.

Hardware and components- The components are protected by a durable plastic resin and quite a sleek 0.7" design. Of course, at this price, all luxuries are stripped like webcam and DVD player- but who watches DVDs these days anyway? As mentioned the screen and keyboard are very small, so this is not a stand-alone entertainment system for your home. What ASUS has focused on is connectivity. On the sides, you'll find 2x 3.0 and 2x 3.2 USB, and a regular size HDMI for hooking up VR headsets, keyboards, screens, and anything else you would like to complete this computer to fit your needs.

Extras and prices– For $1,200 you get first-class hardware and components you won't find on any other laptop in this price range.

You could, however, need a good sound system or headphones to give you a better listening experience. The speakers are definitely not top-notch, so a VR gamer would probably need something that gives a lot more detailed sound specter while playing.

Conclusion– The ROG Zephyrus is one of our favorite VR gaming computers that has stripped away many expensive components to cater to those who simply need to run games. Of course, there are plenty of other things this computer works for as well. But for work, we would recommend a larger keyboard and a larger and more detailed screen. So there you have it- a compact and solid powerhouse you can bring anywhere to hook up for a VR gaming session!

Summary

An affordable solution for VR gamers that don't want to break the bank just to play a few known game titles online. A solid crafted hard casing protects the massive processing and graphics power of the ASUS ROG Zephyrus.
